Gadkari Launches Rs 2,000-Crore Highway Push in Puducherry

The package targets faster through-traffic by decongesting Puducherry’s core.

Overview

  • Inauguration marked the opening of the 38 km Puducherry–Poondiyankuppam four-lane stretch on NH-32, built at a cost of Rs 1,588 crore.
  • Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation for a roughly 4 km elevated corridor between Indira Gandhi Square and Rajiv Gandhi Square on NH-32, a Rs 436 crore project.
  • The ministry projects the corridor will handle about 60,000 PCUs daily and cut travel time on the stretch from roughly 35 minutes to about 10 minutes.
  • An improvement plan of about Rs 25 crore was announced for a 14 km East Coast Road segment under NH-332A to strengthen regional connectivity.
  • The event drew the Lt Governor, Chief Minister, and union ministers as Gadkari pledged transparent, time-bound, corruption-free execution and cleared proposals for two additional flyovers pending detailed submissions.
