GA-ASI, Hanwha Sign Agreement to Co-Develop Gray Eagle STOL With South Korean Production

The plan targets a 2027 first flight with 2028 deliveries, pairing Korean manufacturing with GA-ASI mission-systems integration.

Overview

  • The companies announced the pact at the AUSA conference, launching immediate work to build a production-representative Gray Eagle STOL.
  • A new facility in South Korea will handle final assembly and manufacturing, while GA-ASI retains responsibility for final mission-systems integration.
  • For the first aircraft, production tasks will be split between GA-ASI in California and Hanwha facilities in Korea, according to a company spokesman.
  • The Mojave demonstrator has de-risked the concept through shipboard operations on ROKS Dokdo and HMS Prince of Wales, live-fire testing at Yuma Proving Ground, and dirt-strip trials.
  • No customer orders were announced, with marketing aimed at the U.S. Department of Defense, South Korea’s defense ministry, and international buyers, as executives emphasize jobs and growth of Korea’s UAS ecosystem.
