GA-ASI, Hanwha Seal Pact to Build Gray Eagle STOL, First Flight in 2027

The plan centers on South Korean final assembly, with GA-ASI responsible for mission-systems integration, with customers yet to be named.

Overview

  • General Atomics Aeronautical Systems and Hanwha Aerospace signed the co-development and co-production agreement at AUSA on Oct. 14.
  • Work begins immediately on a production-representative Gray Eagle STOL, with first flight slated for 2027 and initial deliveries in 2028.
  • Early aircraft will be built in both California and South Korea, followed by a South Korea production facility handling manufacture and final assembly.
  • GA-ASI will conduct final mission-systems integration while the partners market the platform to the U.S. Department of Defense, South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense and international customers.
  • Demonstrations by the Mojave testbed include dirt-strip operations, live-fire testing at Yuma Proving Ground and launch and recovery from ROKS Dokdo and HMS Prince of Wales.
