Overview

• The Home Department posted DG (Administration) G. Venkatraman as in-charge Head of Police Force following DGP Shankar Jiwal’s retirement.
• The state has sent eight DGP-rank names to the UPSC for empanelment under the Supreme Court’s Prakash Singh guidelines.
• Orders issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dheeraj Kumar also named Jiwal the first Chairman of the new Fire Commission, with charge from September 1 in Egmore.
• DGP (Headquarters) Vinit Dev Wankhade was moved to lead the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation, and Shailesh Kumar Yadav retired after heading that unit and being cited by the Thoothukudi probe panel.
• Venkatraman, a 1994-batch IPS officer, earlier served in the CBI and DVAC and led e-governance and cyber crime initiatives at police headquarters.
