Future of Legacy Awards Uncertain as CBC Deal Ends

Founders Shamier Anderson and Stephan James hope for continued support to celebrate Black Canadian excellence.

The third annual Legacy Awards took place in Toronto, celebrating Black Canadians in film, television, music, sports, and culture.
The event concluded a three-year broadcast agreement between The Black Academy and CBC, with renewal talks ongoing.
Honourees included Toronto International Film Festival CEO Cameron Bailey, Juno Award winner Kardinal Offishall, and Soulpepper Theatre's artistic director Weyni Mengesha.
The gala featured performances by artists such as SadBoi, Smiley, d’bi.young, Neema Bickersteth, and Morgan-Paige Melbourne.
Host Adrian Holmes emphasized the importance of the awards in providing a platform for underrepresented voices in Canada.
