Fung-wong Floods Taiwan, Forcing 8,300 Evacuations and Closing Schools

Officials warn of dangerous flooding despite weakening winds, prompting widespread precautions.

  • Heavy rain triggered neck-deep floods in eastern Yilan and Hualien, with more than 1,000 homes inundated in Suao and rainfall totals up to 794 millimeters in Dongshan.
  • Taiwan’s National Fire Agency reported at least 51 injuries, while closures covered cities including Kaohsiung, Taichung and Tainan, and dozens of flights were canceled.
