Funeral Held for President M. Russell Ballard, Second-in-Line to LDS Church Presidency

Remembered as a principled and compassionate leader, Ballard's legacy continues through his extensive family and his influence on church policy.

President M. Russell Ballard of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was remembered at his funeral as a principled and compassionate man and exemplar of the faith.
Ballard, who died at age 95, was second-in-line to the church presidency as the second-longest-tenured member of a top governing body called the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Ballard was acting president of the quorum for the past five years and a quorum member for 38 years. The leadership body sits below the First Presidency and helps set church policy and oversees the faith’s business interests.
Church leaders named Jeffrey R. Holland, a quorum member since 1994, the quorum’s acting president.
Ballard is survived by his seven children, 43 grandchildren, 105 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
