Her June 17 arraignment led to her release on bail pending trial on federal charges of allegedly tasing compliant detainees.

Overview

  • Federal prosecutors returned a June 10 indictment accusing Sgt. Khadijah Solomon of violating detainees’ civil rights and obstructing justice by tasing compliant, non-threatening pretrial inmates.
  • Body-worn camera footage reportedly shows Solomon using a taser “excessively” on three separate occasions in January, including shocking a handcuffed detainee.
  • Prosecutors allege Solomon filed false incident reports to hide her use of force, exposing her to up to 10 years in prison for each civil rights violation and 20 years for each false report.
  • In February, Solomon and two other detention officers were arrested on state assault charges and fired after the sheriff’s office referred the case to the FBI amid an inquiry into inmate mistreatment.
  • The federal case is part of a broader Justice Department investigation that led to a January consent decree addressing documented inhumane conditions at Fulton County Jail.
