Fugitive Accused in 2016 Slaying of Two Peru Police Extradited After Mexico Arrest

The return follows a coordinated Interpol-led operation in Nezahualcóyotl after nearly nine years on the run.

Overview

  • Peruvian police said Adolfo Ernesto Grosso Zamora, 33, was transferred to Peru to face charges of aggravated homicide and membership in a criminal organization.
  • He was detained on October 9 in Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico, in a multiagency operation involving Semar, SSPC, Sedena, FGR, the National Guard, INM and Interpol.
  • Authorities report he lived in Mexico under changing identities for about nine years while subject to a Peruvian warrant and an Interpol Red Notice issued in 2016.
  • The case centers on a March 16, 2016 “marca” robbery in Lima’s Rímac district, where officers Gustavo Romero Zevallos and Yoeen Sánchez Anaya were shot dead after intercepting the fleeing assailants.
  • Other suspects were previously detained, including Abner Benjamín Olivera Quijandría, while alleged shooter Jean Paúl Romero de la Vega, known as “Loco Paúl,” later died.
