Fuera de Campo to Run Parallel to Mar del Plata Film Festival as Official Lineup and Guests Are Unveiled

The parallel event underscores a rift in Argentina’s film community over INCAA policy, funding priorities, cultural direction.

Overview

  • Fuera de Campo, a self-funded showcase, will run in Mar del Plata from November 6–11 at Teatro Enrique Carreras with talks at El Gran Pez, overlapping the official festival scheduled for November 6–16.
  • It will present close to 40 Argentine titles spanning new works and restored 16mm classics, with tickets sold on-site for AR$5,000 and additional financing through limited tote bag sales.
  • Organizers describe the initiative as a political action in defense of national cinema and accuse INCAA under Carlos Pirovano of diverting film funds into financial instruments and endangering outlets such as Cine.ar.
  • The 40th Mar del Plata Festival was formally presented at Cine Gaumont with cultural officials, announcing an opening screening of Bill Condon’s El beso de la mujer araña and Astor de Plata tributes to Juan José Jusid, Marilina Ross and Miguel Ángel Solá.
  • Festival competitions feature Argentine entries in International and Latin American sections, Pablo Trapero’s & Sons competing for the UK, and a first-ever noncompetitive series showcase including Yiya, Hija del fuego and titles from Mexico, Spain and the United States.
