Overview
- Average pump prices on Jan. 1 rose versus Dec. 31 to €1.709 per liter for Super E10 (+3.4 cents) and €1.658 for diesel (+4.0 cents), according to ADAC data.
- From 2026 the fuel levy is determined by auctions of CO2 certificates within a €55–€65 per tonne corridor, with the EU road-and-heating ETS II scheduled to start in 2028 after a one-year delay.
- The revised CO2 charge adds roughly up to about 3 cents per liter to petrol and slightly more to diesel, while overall prices remain sensitive to crude oil markets and other factors.
- Heating costs are rising too, with CO2 charges up to 1.55 cents per kWh for gas and up to 20.70 cents per liter for heating oil, which can add over €300–€400 a year at typical consumption levels.
- The commuter tax allowance was increased on Jan. 1 to a uniform 38 cents per kilometer, providing partial relief for higher travel expenses.
