FTII Itanagar Students Boycott Second Semester Over Unfinished Campus

Students demand a time-bound remediation plan before returning to class.

Overview

  • The first cohort at the Arunachal Pradesh film institute has told the I&B Ministry and SRFTI it will not resume studies without an official, itemised plan with deadlines.
  • Students cite non-functional studios, no preview theatre or sound studio, limited cameras, incomplete hostels and mess, weak medical support, and missing basics such as ID cards and an official website.
  • SRFTI Vice Chancellor Samiran Datta acknowledges pending infrastructure, attributes delays to CPWD logistics, and proposes temporary use of Doordarshan facilities in Arunachal and Guwahati and the SRFTI Kolkata campus.
  • Datta says the next intake will be realigned to the UGC calendar with admissions completed by July 2026, while RTI responses reported by students indicate the campus is unfit for new admissions in 2025 and that fresh admissions were put on hold.
  • Students previously halted academics in March and May, say construction work stalled after August, and report they failed to secure a formal meeting with senior I&B officials during IFFI Goa.
