Fête de la Musique Brings Free Live Music to German Streets on June 21

Organizers have lined up hundreds of musicians in public squares from folk to electronic backed by sunny forecasts

Overview

  • Torgau will join the festival for the first time with more than 60 acts performing from 14:00 in the historic Altstadt and concluding with DJ sets at Kulturbastion.
  • Löbau’s Altmarkt will feature ensembles from the Kreismusikschule, a-cappella quartets and a silent disco following a midday street closure.
  • Bautzen returns after last year’s cancellation with 150 musicians scheduled across the Hauptmarkt, the Sorbisches National-Ensemble garden and the Maria-und-Martha-Kirche forecourt.
  • Thüringen cities including Erfurt, Jena and Weimar will host free open-air concerts at over 30 venues, and Hermsdorf will participate for the first time.
  • Genres spanning pop to folk and classical to electronic will be performed without fees, and audiences may tip under expected sunshine and mild temperatures.
