Overview
- Last week the FTC sent over $126 million in refunds to nearly 970,000 Fortnite players charged for unwanted in-game items under its December 2022 settlement with Epic Games
- Combined with the $72 million disbursed in December 2024, consumers have now recovered almost $200 million for deceptive billing practices
- Eligible U.S. players who bought unwanted items between January 2017 and September 2022 or whose children made unauthorized charges have until July 9 to file claims
- Refunds are delivered by check or PayPal with recipients advised to cash checks within 90 days and redeem PayPal payments within 30 days
- The FTC will validate remaining claims and issue the final round of payments in 2026 as part of the $245 million restitution for consumer refunds
