FSSAI Recalls Everest Cumin Batch and Suspends Creative Bakers Licence

The regulator says laboratory-confirmed pesticide breaches and severe hygiene failures prompted the actions and signal stepped-up enforcement across the food sector.

Overview

  • A regulatory sample drawn from Riverside Resorts in Goa was tested on Sunday and both the Food Analyst and a Referral Food Laboratory found azoxystrobin and thiamethoxam at levels above the permitted maximum residue limits, declaring the sample unsafe.
  • FSSAI ordered the immediate recall of the entire implicated batch of Everest pre-packed cumin powder and directed Everest to maintain full recall records, submit prescribed status reports, and complete corrective measures.
  • Following an on-site inspection, FSSAI suspended the licence of Creative Bakers and Confectioners Pvt Ltd and directed the operator to cease all food business after finding dirt, grease, cobwebs, flies, open storage of perishables, rusted containers, and significant pest infestation.
  • The regulator has stepped up enforcement and is publicising actions on official social channels, a move that raises the likelihood of more frequent sampling, referral testing and public recalls across supply chains.
  • Azoxystrobin is a fungicide and thiamethoxam is an insecticide and both are covered by legal maximum residue limits; exceedances trigger recalls because they can pose consumer-safety risks and require follow-up testing and corrective controls.
