Fresh Violence Erupts in Manipur's Kangpokpi Over Security Forces Deployment

Protesters in Kangpokpi, led by Kuki groups, demanded the withdrawal of central security forces, citing grievances over recent operations in Saibol village.
Demonstrators attacked the offices of the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner, pelting stones and petrol bombs, injuring Kangpokpi SP Manoj Prabhakar and others.
Security forces used tear gas to disperse the crowd, while armed individuals were reported on the streets, intensifying the unrest in the region.
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) imposed an economic blockade and a 24-hour shutdown, protesting alleged mistreatment during earlier security operations.
Manipur has faced ethnic violence since May 2023, with over 250 deaths and thousands displaced, as tensions persist between the Meitei and Kuki communities over resource allocation and autonomy.
