Overview

  • Between July 20 and 28, armed attacks across Chiúre, Ancuabe and Muidumbe uprooted 46,667 people, with Chiúre worst hit at over 42,000 displaced—more than half of them children.
  • Displaced families in Chiúre are sheltering in overcrowded areas such as Bairro Micone and Bairro Namicir, facing severe shortages of shelter, clean water, food and medical services.
  • The International Organization for Migration says displaced households in Ancuabe nearly tripled in one week to 444 families, including over 1,200 children.
  • Militant fighters in Muidumbe burned homes in Magaia village and opened fire near Mungue, forcing nearly 500 families into temporary displacement sites with limited humanitarian access.
  • Mozambique’s 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan has secured only 19 percent of its $352 million target, prompting aid agencies to reduce their assistance goal from 1.1 million people to 317,000.
