Frente Frío 25 To Enter Mexico With Sharp Cold, Torrential Rains and Dangerous Norte Winds

Tabasco enters a yellow alert due to forecast flooding, landslides and damaging winds.

Overview

  • The National Weather Service (SMN/Conagua) says the Arctic-driven front will move in from the north and northeast late Dec. 28 into Dec. 29, enhanced by jet streams and an atmospheric river.
  • Forecasters project intense to torrential rains in Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Puebla, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Chiapas, with risks of river rises, flash flooding and landslides.
  • A very strong norte event is expected with gusts up to about 100 km/h along the coasts of Tamaulipas and Veracruz and across the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, creating hazardous marine conditions.
  • Marked cooling is forecast with minimums down to -10 to -5 °C in mountain areas of Baja California, Chihuahua and Durango, and a probability of snow or sleet in northern Chihuahua.
  • Civil protection agencies urge precautions for vulnerable groups, and Tabasco’s IPCET has activated a yellow alert for Dec. 29–31 as Frente Frío 24 dissipates and the new system advances.
