Overview

• The Tizi Ouzou court convicted 36-year-old Christophe Gleizes of “glorifying terrorism” and “possessing publications for propaganda purposes harmful to national interests” based on contacts with a Kabylie independence figure.
• Gleizes, a contributor to So Foot magazine, was arrested in May 2024 while reporting on JS Kabylie and placed under judicial control that barred him from leaving Algeria.
• He was taken to Tizi Ouzou prison immediately after the June 29 sentencing and remains detained pending legal review.
• His defense team will file an appeal on July 1, but procedural rules mean the earliest the case can be heard is October 2025.
• Reporters Without Borders and So Foot denounced the verdict as baseless political interference in journalism and warned it will further strain France–Algeria relations.
