French Soldier Dies in Djibouti Road Accident

Corporal Vasil Bychyk, 26, was killed while returning from a training exercise, with several others injured.

Corporal Vasil Bychyk, part of the 16th Battalion of Chasseurs à Pied from Bitche, died in a vehicle accident in Djibouti on October 30, 2024.
The incident occurred as Bychyk was driving an armored vehicle back from a shooting exercise.
Bychyk was deployed to Djibouti for a short-term mission under France's defense agreements with the country.
He was recognized for his dedication, having been awarded the bronze defense medal and promoted to corporal earlier this year.
French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu expressed deep condolences to Bychyk's family and acknowledged the injuries of other soldiers involved.
