French Ski Federation Bans Julia Simon for Six Months, Five Suspended

The ruling, issued after her criminal conviction, keeps a path to Milan–Cortina 2026 open while sidelining her for the start of the season.

Overview

  • Effective November 7, the sanction bars her from FFS- and IBU-sanctioned competitions and trainings for six months with five months suspended, and imposes a €30,000 fine with €15,000 suspended for youth biathlon programs.
  • Practically, she will miss the Bessans preparation camp and the Östersund World Cup opener on November 29, with a return possible in mid-December at Hochfilzen if the decision stands.
  • Both the athlete and the federation have seven days to appeal, and under FFS rules any appeal is not automatically suspensive unless the first-instance body decides otherwise.
  • The decision follows her October 24 conviction in Albertville for theft and bank-card fraud against a teammate and a staff member, resulting in a three-month suspended prison sentence and a €15,000 court fine after she admitted the acts.
  • The IBU integrity unit signaled it may review the case under its Code of Integrity, while sponsors and her French Customs employer are assessing their positions and team relations remain a concern.
