French Regional Councillor Leaves LFI Group Over Alleged Islamist Infiltration

His departure further reduces LFI’s footprint in Hauts-de-France as a book alleging Islamist links to the party is published following a prepublication lawsuit.

Overview

  • Cédric Brun, a Hauts-de-France regional councillor and former CGT official, announced he is leaving the LFI group while remaining in the joint EELVLFI technical group.
  • Brun alleges a deliberate “strategy of infiltration” by Muslim Brotherhood–linked figures, citing months of recruiting of “worrying profiles” in local action groups, particularly in the Denaisis.
  • He names Soufiane Iquioussen as leading a local LFI action group and campaigning with Youssouf Feddal, claims he warned Manuel Bompard and Paul Vannier without reply, and characterizes Feddal’s appearance alongside Bompard in Maubeuge as an endorsement.
  • The LFI contingent at the regional council has shrunk from six elected officials in 2021 to four now, following earlier departures including Julien Poix in 2023.
  • Context includes Imam Hassan Iquioussen’s 2023 expulsion to Morocco, Soufiane Iquioussen’s denial that he shares his father’s positions, prior distancing by the local PS in 2021, and the release of Omar Youssef Souleimane’s book Les complices du mal, which LFI challenged in court before publication.
