French Mother Sentenced for Abandoning Son for Two Years

Despite Harsh Living Conditions, Nine-Year-Old Boy Attended School Daily and is Now in Foster Care

A nine-year-old French boy was abandoned by his mother and lived alone for two years in an unheated flat without electricity, surviving on canned food, cakes, and stolen tomatoes.
The boy's mother, identified as Alexandra, lived with her boyfriend three miles away and occasionally dropped off food for him.
Despite his circumstances, the boy managed to attend school every day and was considered a model student by his teachers.
The case came to light when the Mayor of Nersac, Barbara Couturier, alerted the police after the mother asked for social services' help to buy food.
The mother was sentenced to 18 months in prison, 12 of which were suspended, and the boy is now in foster care.
