The Cour de justice de la République (CJR) has launched an investigation into Minister Aurore Bergé for alleged false testimony regarding her connections to private daycare lobbyist Elsa Hervy.
The inquiry follows an October 2024 signal from the French National Assembly, citing Bergé's statements under oath during an April 2024 parliamentary hearing on private daycare practices.
Journalist Victor Castanet's book, published in September 2024, alleges a 'pact of non-aggression' between Bergé and Hervy during her tenure as Minister of Families in 2023–2024.
Bergé has denied the claims and filed defamation lawsuits against Castanet, who subsequently released documents he asserts support his allegations.
The case marks a rare use of the CJR, the only court authorized to prosecute government officials for misconduct during their official duties.
