French Left Backs Sept. 10 ‘Bloquons Tout’ as LFI Sets Censure Bid

Union leaderships weigh coordinated strikes after Bayrou’s €44 billion austerity plan galvanized online calls to block the country.

Overview

  • Manon Aubry of LFI says a motion of censure will be filed on the first day of the parliamentary session on 22 September targeting the 2026 budget.
  • Socialists toughened their stance, with Pierre Jouvet calling for “direct and immediate” censure and Olivier Faure saying the party will accompany the Sept. 10 mobilisation.
  • Ecologist leader Marine Tondelier urges support for the day of action while rejecting partisan instrumentalisation, and the PCF and NPA also declare backing.
  • FO has a strike pre-notice from 1 September and, along with the CGT and other unions, will decide next week on actions, as several CGT federations and Solidaires branches prepare to mobilise on 10 September.
  • The decentralised movement has spread across TikTok, Telegram and Facebook, draws a heterogeneous mix of participants, and centres on Bayrou’s savings plan that includes the possible loss of two public holidays and freezes to social benefits.
