French Justice Ministry Secures €250 Million Budget Increase

Didier Migaud announces additional funding to partially reverse initial budget cuts, ensuring commitments to judicial staff and infrastructure are upheld.

The French Ministry of Justice received an additional €250 million for the 2025 budget, reducing the impact of the initially proposed €500 million cut.
Justice Minister Didier Migaud emphasized that the funding will help honor commitments made in the 2023 justice programming law, including the hiring of judicial staff.
The budget increase will allow for the creation of approximately 1,550 jobs in 2025, nearly 1,000 more than initially planned.
Despite the budget boost, some planned investments in prison infrastructure will be rescheduled, although the goal of adding 18,000 prison places by 2027 remains unchanged.
Migaud highlighted the ongoing need for increased funding to address the challenges facing the French justice system, which remains one of the least funded in Europe.
