Overview

  • The review launched under former Health Minister Olivier Véran will resume in early 2026 as HAS seeks stronger data and agreement on youth protocols
  • HAS recommends that surgeons honor gender-affirming procedure requests from trans adults now that consensus exists for mature care
  • Its guidance calls for transparent preoperative information, informed consent, no mandatory psychiatric evaluations, and tailored psychological support
  • HAS warns that uneven access to transition services across France risks treatment abandonment, self-medication, and severe mental health outcomes up to suicide
  • Coverage disputes continue, highlighted by a May ruling ordering CPAM Bas-Rhin to reimburse a trans man’s surgery under long-term illness provisions
