French Government Officially Authorizes 'Groups of Needs' for 6th and 5th Grades

The decree allows the Minister of Education to establish rules for teaching in groups or classes for pedagogical purposes in 6th and 5th grades.
The Council of State had previously challenged the initiative's legal framework in 2024, requiring a decree to validate its implementation.
Teacher unions continue to oppose the initiative, citing concerns over its pedagogical approach and the potential stigmatization of students.
The decree also includes provisions for tailored pedagogical support for 4th and 3rd grades, particularly to prepare students for the brevet exam.
