Overview
- On August 10, gendarmes stopped a truck from Spain on the A63 at Cestas and found 1.345 tonnes of cocaine hidden in dozens of bags inside wooden crates.
- The investigation began in July after a Guardia Civil intelligence tip and surveillance revealed two suspicious trips between southern Spain and northern Europe.
- The 36-year-old Spanish driver was charged on August 14 with organized importation, transport and participation in a criminal association, facing up to ten years in prison.
- Colonel Christelle Tarrolle of the UNI estimates the semi-wholesale value of the seized cocaine at €30 million to €40 million.
- The inquiry is co-led by SR Bordeaux under JIRS authority and supported by Ofast, the UNI and the Service central de renseignement criminel ahead of their integration into the UNPJ on September 1.
