French Farmers Renew A64 Blockades in Occitanie as Protests Enter Third Week

Farm groups signal actions will roll into early January after weeks of disruption.

Overview

  • About 50 farmers with roughly 15 tractors blocked the A64 near Cazères, causing traffic backups between Toulouse and Bayonne, according to local reports.
  • The long-running blockade at nearby Carbonne remains in place more than two weeks after it began, the gendarmerie said.
  • Coordination Rurale, FDSEA, Jeunes Agriculteurs and the Confédération paysanne coordinated the latest actions, citing frustration over DNC management, the PAC budget, Mercosur and a fertilizer tax.
  • Around 100 farmers in Carcassonne removed imported goods from a Leclerc hypermarket in a symbolic protest against foreign products.
  • Unions are preparing a Toulouse demonstration on Saturday 3 January with crosses to represent animals culled under the DNC protocol, while the EUMercosur signing is now expected on 12 January 2026.
