French Farmers Lift Key A63 and A64 Blockades as Core Standoff Persists

Union leaders signal January actions following local talks that left the herd-culling policy unchanged.

Overview

  • Coordination Rurale ended its 12‑day blockade on the A63 at Cestas, clearing tents and debris from the site south of Bordeaux.
  • The union said the A64 blockades at Pau and Urt would be opened around midday after discussions with the prefect.
  • Several sites remain shut or affected, including the A64 near Carbonne, stretches of the A75 in Aveyron and Lozère, and parts of the RN88 around Albi where cleanup is underway.
  • Farmers’ central demand remains the end of systematic culling of entire herds for DNC cases, a pillar of the state’s strategy along with vaccination and movement limits.
  • Leaders are preparing new actions in early January, including a plan to link A75 blockades, as Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez highlights ongoing dialogue and unions prepare for a January 5 meeting with the prime minister.
