Overview

  • Nîmes has instituted a 15-day curfew for under-16s from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. across six deprived neighborhoods starting July 21.
  • In Béziers, a weekend ambush on firefighters and police wounded an officer and ignited an apartment when a mortar-launched firework struck.
  • Limoges maintained its minors’ curfew and called in a CRS unit after masked groups confronted officers and attacked vehicles during recent nights.
  • Gard Prefect Jérôme Bonet dispatched about sixty additional officers to Nîmes as residents report school and social center closures because of pervasive fear.
  • Police union Unité and local leaders warn that curfews without bolstered youth services and socio-economic investment will provide only temporary relief.
