French Cinema Attendance Reaches 181 Million in 2024, Marking Global Exception

France saw a 0.5% rise in cinema attendance in 2024, driven by strong domestic films and outperforming other global markets still recovering from the pandemic.

Cinema attendance in France grew to 181.3 million in 2024, a 0.5% increase from 2023, making it the only country globally to report a rise in theater admissions last year.
French films captured 44.4% of the market share, the highest since 2008, with three domestic movies collectively selling nearly 25 million tickets.
The top-performing French films included 'A Little Something Extra' (10.3 million admissions), 'The Count of Monte Cristo' (9.1 million), and 'Beating Hearts' (4.7 million).
American films also contributed to the box office, with 'Inside Out 2' (8.3 million) and 'Moana 2' (6.4 million) among the top performers in the overall rankings.
Despite the growth, attendance remains 12.8% below pre-pandemic levels, though the final months of 2024 showed significant recovery toward pre-COVID figures.
