Fremont Investigates Cluster of Abandoned Small Dogs as Shelter Prepares Adoptions

A sixth dog is believed to still be roaming near Quarry Lakes.

Overview

  • Five small dogs were recovered across Fremont over a 72-hour span, with two found near Quarry Lakes, one under a vehicle on North Grimmer Boulevard, and two at Irvington Park.
  • Shelter officials say the dogs, thought to be about three to four years old and of similar small-breed mixes, were in unkempt condition with no identification and are now receiving medical care.
  • Tri-City Animal Shelter says a few of the recovered dogs will be available for adoption starting Wednesday, with the remainder to follow once ready.
  • Police and animal services believe the cases may be linked to a single person and have opened an active investigation.
  • Authorities continue searching for an additional white, fluffy dog near Quarry Lakes and are asking for tips at 510-790-6635 or animalshelter@fremont.gov, with non-urgent inquiries to animalservices@fremont.gov.
