Freeze Warning Triggers Metro Atlanta Warming Centers as Schools Shift Schedules

  • The National Weather Service issued a Freeze Warning from 9 p.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Tuesday, with a Winter Weather Advisory for north Georgia where up to 1 inch of snow is possible.
  • Atlanta opened two sites from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. with transportation provided from the Gateway Center at 8 p.m.
  • DeKalb County activated multiple centers nightly at 6:30 p.m., offered pickups starting at 6 p.m. with final 10 p.m. sweeps, reported more than 215 people checked in, and noted 266 available beds at Frontline Response’s facility.
  • Gwinnett County is operating warming stations nightly from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. when temperatures reach 35°F or below, and MUST Ministries’ Hope House in Marietta is open Monday and Tuesday evenings for men, women, and children.
  • Dawson, Fannin, and Gilmer county school systems announced early dismissals and canceled extracurriculars, and residents were advised to call ahead and bring identification, medications, warm layers, and basic supplies.
