Free UK Passports Still Available for Britons Born on or Before September 2, 1929

A wartime-era waiver still covers the standard passport with secure delivery fees included.

Overview

  • The standard online adult passport fee, which rose Wednesday, April 8, to £102, does not apply to people born on or before September 2, 1929.
  • Eligibility covers any British national status at the time of application, and everyone who qualifies is now at least 96 years old.
  • The waiver applies to the standard 32-page passport, with secure return delivery included and the Post Office Check and Send fee waived or refundable if paid by mistake.
  • Applications can be made online, by post using a paper form with no extra charge for eligible people, or through the Post Office’s Check and Send service.
  • The concession began in 2004 to recognise wartime service, with free 10-year passports offered from October 2004 to those who were 16 or older at the end of the war.
