Free Tool Lets Users Turn Copilot Key Back Into Ctrl

A GitHub release installs a small app that remaps the new hardware button to the traditional Ctrl function and runs automatically at startup.

Overview

  • Manufacturers have moved a dedicated Copilot button into the lower-right key position that traditionally housed Ctrl, a change reported Tuesday across multiple outlets.
  • Developer Dan Weiss published NoCopilotKey as a free GitHub release that converts the Copilot key back to the original Ctrl behavior.
  • To install, users download NoCopilotKey.zip from the release Assets, extract the folder and run NoCopilotKey Installer.exe.
  • After installation the program runs at system startup, it can be temporarily stopped by ending the NoCopilotKey process in Task Manager and removed through Windows' Programs & features.
  • The remap is software-only so the Copilot logo stays on the physical key and users who want the key to look like Ctrl again are advised to cover the icon with a sticker; the case highlights how simple software fixes can restore familiar keyboard habits.
