A fraudulent beneficiary account under the name 'Sunny Leone' was discovered in Chhattisgarh's Mahatari Vandan Yojana, a welfare scheme providing ₹1,000 monthly to married women.
The accused, Virendra Joshi, allegedly transferred funds from the fake account to his own, and has claimed his Aadhaar and bank details were misused.
Authorities have launched an investigation, filed an FIR, and ordered the seizure of the fraudulent bank account to recover misappropriated funds.
Local Anganwadi worker Vedmati Joshi and other officials involved in beneficiary verification are under scrutiny for their roles in enabling the fraud.
The revelation has escalated political tensions, with the Congress accusing the BJP government of widespread irregularities in the scheme, which serves around 70 lakh beneficiaries.
