French biathlete Julia Simon claimed her second gold of the championship, finishing ahead of Sweden's Ella Halvarsson and fellow Frenchwoman Lou Jeanmonnot.
German debutant Johanna Puff was the only athlete from her team to shoot clean, finishing 22nd, while teammates Julia Tannheimer and Selina Grotian struggled with multiple shooting errors.
Preuß will have additional opportunities to compete in the Single Mixed Relay, the Team Relay, and the Mass Start events later in the championship.
