Frankfurter Buchmesse Confirmed for Oct. 7–11 as Hall 6 Closed for Structural Defects

Organisers say the closure forces a reordering of halls and exhibitor placements while the fair expands its programme and marks director Juergen Boos’s final edition.

Overview

  • Organisers confirmed in mid-September that the 78th Frankfurter Buchmesse will run from October 7 to 11 with exhibitor numbers expected to match prior years.
  • Messe Frankfurt reported structural defects in Hall 6 that make the hall unusable this year, so international publishers will be moved into other spaces such as Hall 4.2 and the Festhalle.
  • The fair’s programme has been expanded to ten stages with more than 1,000 speakers and themed 'Erlebniswelten' for genre fans, creating a wider public schedule across the reworked site.
  • Czechia will be the guest of honour with about 75 authors attending and a pavilion that incorporates artificial intelligence into its presentation.
  • This edition is Juergen Boos’s last after 21 years as director and will see Joachim Kaufmann succeed him next year, while related events in Frankfurt include the Immigrationsbuchmesse on October 3–4 and prize dates for the Deutscher Buchpreis on October 5 and the Friedenspreis on October 11.
