Overview

  • The winning entries are exhibited on Paulsplatz and in the Paulskirche, and citizens can rate them in person or via a questionnaire at deinhausderdemokratie.de until 30 September.
  • A jury led by architect Christa Reicher selected the ten from 128 submissions and awarded €22,000 to each, noting that some ideas clash with heritage protections.
  • Most concepts convert the Stadtkämmerei rather than build anew, while only two envision a new structure on Paulsplatz, and reusing the municipal building would require relocating about 220 city employees with no solution yet.
  • Public participation includes an ideas forum on 22 August, an online workshop on 4 September, and a workshop in the Paulskirche on 23 September.
  • Officials emphasize these are conceptual proposals and say the feedback will guide a proposal for the City Council and a second, detailed design competition, with rough costs of about €75 million for the House plus €75 million to renovate the Paulskirche and construction targeted for 2028/2029.
