Overview

  • On June 19, Frankfurt’s Zollfahndungsamt discovered 160 kg of crystal meth hidden in a metal box inside a paving-stone machine, marking Germany’s largest single air-route seizure of the drug
  • The shipment originated in Mexico, was bound for the Netherlands and carried an estimated street value of around ten million euros
  • Customs officers carefully cut open the heavy machinery with support from the Frankfurt Airport fire brigade and removed the drugs shovel-wise
  • Cooperation with Belgian Customs and Dutch Police led to the arrest of four suspected organizers in the Netherlands last week
  • Since early July, intensified checks at Frankfurt Airport have also intercepted undeclared gold bars worth over one million euros
