Frankfurt Book Fair Opens This Week With Expanded Public Access and Philippines as Guest of Honour

Organizers aim to reach new readers by allowing Friday entry plus on-site sales from the first day.

Overview

  • The 2025 fair runs October 15–19, preceded by the German Book Prize announcement on October 13 and an opening press conference on October 14.
  • Newly minted Nobel laureate László Krasznahorkai is set to speak at Tuesday’s press conference, and Maria Ressa will discuss security with Jens Stoltenberg on the Center Stage.
  • As guest of honour, the Philippines will present a broad program with about 60 titles newly available in German and a pavilion using native materials such as shells, bamboo and pineapple fiber.
  • Public access expands to a full Friday, book sales are permitted from day one, and the 5,600 m² Festhalle becomes a large Meet the Author area with extensive signing sessions.
  • Organizers expect more than 1,000 authors and exhibitors from 92 countries, and public tickets are limited to online pre‑sale with set daily prices and 9:00–18:30 opening hours.
