Overview
- Fraport set Terminal 3’s operational start for April 2026, with the first commercial departure scheduled for April 23 after an official switch-on on April 22.
- A large-scale trial will run from late January to mid-April 2026, using about 8,000 volunteers to test journeys, check-in, security, boarding, and access via the new Sky Line link or by car.
- All non-Lufthansa and non–Star Alliance airlines currently in Terminal 2—57 carriers—will move to Terminal 3 in four waves.
- Terminal 2 will then be closed for a complete renovation expected to run into the early 2030s.
- Terminal 3 adds capacity for 19 million passengers a year, expandable to 25 million, in a roughly €4 billion, largely privately financed project that continues to face environmental and demand-related criticism.
