Franken Rail Disruptions Intensify as DB Plans Rerouted Nürnberg–Hof Trains From Oct. 13

Bridge damage on the HersbruckPegnitz corridor keeps the line shut with full service currently projected no later than February 2026.

Overview

  • The Nürnberg-NordostGräfenberg route is closed for repairs on October 10 with replacement buses in service and RB21 cancellations expected.
  • Many RE10 trips between Würzburg Hbf and Kitzingen were canceled due to short-term staff absences, and some early services had no substitute buses.
  • Traffic between Bamberg and Nürnberg has reopened after an emergency doctor response in Fürth Vach, though delays and short-notice cancellations may continue.
  • Starting October 13, DB Regio Bayern will operate seven daily train pairs between Nürnberg and Hof via Weiden and Marktredwitz under a temporary timetable valid until December 13.
  • DB is deploying around 60 replacement buses on affected routes, and the Nürnberg–Hof plan includes no trains November 1–5 due to another closure.
