Overview

  • The health ministry released a map of 151 intercommunal priority zones that will receive general practitioner support starting September 2025.
  • Under a territorial solidarity mission adopted in April, doctors in areas with sufficient coverage must commit up to two days per month to these priority zones.
  • The initiative targets largely rural departments such as Creuse, Yonne, Indre and overseas territories including Guyane and Mayotte.
  • A June 18 reform will broaden access to the second year of medical studies to accelerate training of new physicians.
  • Officials plan to expand the medical workforce by 20% by 2027, including hosting 3,700 junior doctors in late 2026 and repatriating students studying abroad.
