France to Revamp Electricity Peak and Off-Peak Hours by 2025

The new system aims to better align reduced electricity rates with evolving consumption patterns and renewable energy production.

The Commission de régulation de l'énergie (CRE) plans to adjust peak and off-peak electricity hours starting in mid-2025, with implementation continuing through 2027.
The changes aim to reflect shifts in energy consumption, including increased demand from electric vehicles and seasonal variations in renewable energy production.
Off-peak hours, currently concentrated overnight, will partially shift to early afternoon during summer months to utilize abundant solar energy.
Approximately 15 million customers, or 40% of households and small businesses, are currently subscribed to peak and off-peak electricity plans.
Public consultation on the proposed changes concluded in November, with final decisions expected in January 2025.
