France to Lift Some Specialist Fees on Jan. 1 and Overhaul GP Pay

The changes implement parts of the 2024 Assurance maladie convention that were deferred after a budget alert.

Overview

  • Targeted tariff increases for private specialists take effect on January 1, 2026 under the 2024 agreement with Assurance maladie.
  • Examples include paediatric mandatory exams rising to €50, a child psychiatry supplement moving from €12 to €18, a neurologist reference consultation set at €52, and a dermatology screening consultation at €60.
  • Technical procedures and certain surgical and obstetric acts receive slight revaluations alongside the consultation fee changes.
  • General practitioners shift to a single annual per‑patient payment, with base amounts ranging from €5 for patients aged 7–74 to €100 for patients over 80 with a long‑term condition, plus €5 bonuses for defined prevention acts such as flu vaccination or a mammogram.
  • A new €60 long consultation for patients over 80 becomes billable once per year from January 1, 2026 in three situations: post‑hospital discharge, medication simplification for polytreated patients, or orientation to a medico‑social pathway.
