France to Fully Cover Cost of Wheelchairs Starting December 2025

President Macron announces comprehensive reimbursement policy for wheelchairs, including specialized models, to support over a million users in France.

The French government will fully reimburse the cost of wheelchairs through Sécurité Sociale beginning December 1, 2025, as announced by President Emmanuel Macron.
This policy includes both standard and specialized wheelchairs, such as those for para-athletes, pending prior approval with a maximum response time of two months.
A detailed list of wheelchairs eligible for full reimbursement will be published on Legifrance on February 7, 2025.
The decision fulfills a promise made by Macron in 2023, delayed by political disruptions, including the dissolution of the Assembly and government censure in 2024.
Currently, wheelchair costs can reach up to €50,000, with existing reimbursements covering only a fraction, leaving many users with significant out-of-pocket expenses.
