Overview

  • French health authorities have confirmed 21 listeriosis cases, including two deaths, are linked to Chavegrand’s pasteurised soft-rind cheeses.
  • An older production line at the Creuse-based dairy was closed in early June and more than 40 batches have been recalled since investigations in August provided microbiological confirmation.
  • Estancia Holdings alerted its U.S. partner Wegmans after a French supplier warned of three possibly contaminated shipments, triggering a recall of camembert items sold between July 1 and August 12 in ten states and Washington, D.C.
  • No illnesses have been reported in connection with the Wegmans recall so far and customers are advised to return affected products for a full refund.
  • Consumer group Foodwatch and health advocates are calling for an independent inquiry into when contamination was first detected and why recall notifications were delayed.
